Artist Statement
My landscapes are paintings and prints meant to give a degree of ambiguity that allows them to provoke a sense of familiarity and calm without presenting a specific location. Sea, land, and sky. These most basic elements of the natural world captivate me. A band of light dances across the surface of the water. A shadow defines the edge of a mountainside. A shift of color marks the sky below and above the clouds. These relationships of light, line, and color are my experience of a landscape, and they return when I sit in my studio to paint. These paintings come from simple ingredients: memory and imagination, sea, land, and sky.

“Dear Caroline,
I cannot tell you in a way that would do you justice how much pleasure your egg tempera paintings brought me. I have been a fan and collector of your paintings for a long time. In fact, I always carry a small one with me like a little talisman, an object of beauty that helps me get centered. Thank you for producing such beauty.” April 2014
”...My wife and I appreciate your work; Fading brought tears to my wife's eyes when she first saw it.” August 2024
“Dear Cari,
The paintings are hanging right next to my bed side! First and last view of the day! I love the atmosphere they recall in me - a combination of great tranquility, while still having movement and everlasting small changes with the feeling of the expansive space and a great peace. Thanks so much!” - January 2022
